Hello everyone,

I have a question or questions that I hope some of you can help me with. I had recently looked up my credit report and notice that there was a judgment against me.

The company that place the judgment is called worldwide assets Purchasing L.L.C.

I have never heard of this company and it doesn't explain what the judgment is for. They just state I owe them $1000.00 and no other information is given. No address, No phone numbers.
The judgment was place in Brooklyn, NY and I live in Jersey City, NJ and have lived in NJ for over 9 years.
I wanted to send them a letter of Validation but I don't even have a correct address for them.

Is my best bet of contacting the agency if I should would be to contact the court where the judgment was placed?

Also I was hoping to find out if a judgment was set against me in NYC and I live in NJ if they can just file against me without contacting me?
Also I do not recall of owning anyone that amount of money and I have paid off any debts I did have. Could this be a scam?

I was wondering if anyone of you can tell me what my first step should.
When I did goggle Worldwide Assets Purchasing L.L.C. but was only able to find that they have been called scammers.

Should I just try to file a motion to vacate the judgment? And if so do I file that in NY or NJ?

I did have one debt that I did clear through an agency and it was paid off could this be another collection agency trying to collect the same debt? Is that possible?

Thanks for reading
=)

You have to be legally served with a Summons/Complaint before a Judgment can be obtained against you. Is this Small Claims Court? If so, it has to be obtained in the jurisdiction where YOU live, not where the creditor does business.

I would notify the Credit Bureau(s) that this is not your debt. You will have to get background info from them if the Court where the Judgment was granted is unable to help you and then have the Judgment set aside for no service.

In the collection business ANYTHING is possible. This very well could be something assigned to 2 collection agencies, neither aware of the other.

Thank you so much Judykaytee

Yes this is small claims court. I will start with the credit bureaus by contacting them explaining this is not my debt. I though I should but wasn't to sure if that was the way to go, I guess the worst thing is if it does show it is my debt some how I would need more information then just the agency name. But I know for sure I do not owe anyone or company any cash.

It could be anything from a fraudulent Judgment to something you already paid. Well worth looking into. Send the letters to the credit bureaus return receipt requested.

And please come back and let us know how this works out.

I'm back!!

Ok so I got some deletions done on trans union but... experian didn't.
Worldwide Asst gave the account to 2 different companies. It was a old account called providan which was purchased by chase bank. Worldwide also claims that they gave Fabiano Asst permission to collect on the claim. The account was purschased by chase around 2007. Chase claims they have the account and they have deleted it from my records but fabiano says I should pay it?

Send a letter to Fabiano and tell them that according to everything you can find out, that the debt has been cancelled and you don't believe its your debt anyway. So if they do not release it from the credit bureaus, then you will take action against them.
