Someone gave me a waffle maker made from outside the country for a 220v. What transformer do I buy to use it here in US 110v? 220 to 110 -or- 110 to 220 transformer?

You need a 220v to 120v converter.
Be SURE it is rated for the correct wattage or you'll burn it up.

Actually, you need a 120V to 220V converter. The Input is stated first (120 V) and the output is stated second. As stanfortyman said, make sure it's rated for the correct wattage or you'll burn up the transformer.

I'm not sure, but unless this waffle maker is gold plated, I think it would be cheaper to buy a new waffle maker.

You need to convert the 120v US voltage to 220v EU voltage.

How would that work on 240 Volts?

Actually, that's another option. It would probably work fine on 2r0 volts. Something that's rated at 220 volts will almost always work fine at 240 volts (in the U.S. of course, it's usually rated from 220-240 volts). In any case, the difference is just 8% and most heating elements are much more compliant than that. The big problem is getting an outlet installed. You would normally want it in a kitchen and most kitchens don't have wall outlets near the countertop with 240 volts on them.

Pulling a pair of 12's(if under 20 amps)to the Waffle maker location is one idea.
The best(most economical and easiest) Idea may have been mentioned above, Buy a 120 volt unit.
It may be cheaper than a free waffle maker needing to adapt?
