What is better, a regular camera or a digital camera and why?

There are advantages and disadvantages of each type of camera. Which one is "better" depends on your needs and application. For instance, if you are going on a long backpacking or on a desert safari trip a film camera might be better because you don't have to worry about the battery life. Film SLR cameras are also much cheaper to purchase (used) than DSLRs. And much easier to repair. It is also much less expensive to buy a medium or large format film camera than digital camera with the same size sensor. You can shoot 4x5 film, then scan it, for FAR less than the cost of buying (or even renting) a 4x5 digital back.

Of course, there are also many advantages of digital cameras, which is why they have become so popular. I shoot with Canon DSLRs myself.

I prefer digital. I can look right away to see if a picture turned out how I wanted it or not. Depending on your memory card size you may not be as limited as to how many pics you can take. Extra memory cards are more compact than extra film. I can easily upload and edit them at home and I decide what gets printed, as opposed to having to have someone else develop and/or edit them in a photo lab.
But like the above said, it depends on your purpose.
