My house is from 1956... and I don't know enough electrical apparently. I am replacing my old ceiling light with a light/ceiling fan. My ceiling light fixture has 6 holes... the wiring setup is: 4 upper holes - 3 x 1 black wire, 1 white wire.
1 x 1 black wire, 1 red wire.

2 side holes - 1 x 1 white wire, 1 red wire.
1 x 1 white wire, 1 black wire, 1 red wire.
the red wire simply goes from one hole to the other, no break-offs in
the fixture.

The result is: all black wires together and not connected to anything.
all white wires together and connected to white wire in old light.
1 red wire from top hole connected to black wire in light.

How does this convert to a simple 1 black, 1 white, 1 blue, and 1 green (ground) ceiling fan/light.

We are not communicating. What does "3 x 1 black wire, 1 white wire" and "1 x 1 black wire, 1 red wire" mean?

Are these wires in cables?

3 x = 3 times... 3 wires are black and 3 wires are white.
1 x = 1 time... 1 wire is black, 1 wire is white.

One of the black wires is the hot bring the power to the box. The other blacks are going to some other fixture. One of the blacks goes to the switch. The red wire brings power back from switch. The whites are neutral.
Connect white of fan to white bundle. Connect fan black to black bundle. Connect red to blue of fan/light.
Use fan pull chain to control fan. Use switch to control light.

And what about the ground on the fan?

If you have no ground in the house wiring just tuck the fan ground away, or connect it to the ceiling box so it does not interfear with anything.

K, thanks, I'll see how it works out.

Sounds like Harold is probably correct. All blacks together. White to white. Blue to red. Black (from fan) to red OR the blacks.
