:confused:I have today bought a light for my sons new room which needed me to place a live neutral and earth wire and voilą ashould have been fixed into place... no such luck though as when I took the old light off from the ceiling I was bewildered by seeing 9 wires coming from the hole in my roof three big black wires each containing a live neutral and earth in my frustration I have now taken everything off from the roof and after trying several times to fix the new light the closest I can get to getting any power at all is having the light on constantly but it won't turn off I tried a few more but have blown the house fuse... I am completely lost now and need some help so badly... really don't want to call out an electrician on a bank holdiday so any help would be much appreciated... thank you very much everyone:confused:

You have learned a valuable lesson... at least a couple. If the old light worked, you should have paid attention to how it was wired... now without troubleshooting and verifying the wiring circuits, you won't know what goes where. Buy a tester, and maybe you can trace the switch leg. I suspect that many of those wires go to other areas of the house, and you shouldn't have disconnected any that didn't pertain to the light. And when you blew the fuse, you shorted the circuit. You just may need on site help with this... sorry.
