How do I handle this situation? A year ago I had to suddenly pack up and leave, thus storing my furniture and boxes with a friend for 6 months. Everything went wrong and as a result I had to store it for 6 months longer. Now a year later I was ready to collect my stuff but with a very sour attitude and an interesting game my friend started playing.

Furniture was stored at her moms place and boxes with her boyfriends mom. It took me 2 months to get her to talk to me let alone get my stuff from her. Another month went by when she eventually decided to give her moms number to me to make arrangements to collect my things. All of a sudden things started happening.

As I started unpacking the boxes, I miss some stuff and know there should be more boxes. She doesn't answer my calls, when eventually the boyfriend answers, he makes an appointment with me to meet where the boxes were stored to look for the lost stuff but then I pitch and knowone is at home . He promises to call me for next appointment. At this stage I feel like a criminal wanting my own stuff back. Weeks go by and as soon as I call her mother to ask her daughter to talk to me, things happen quickly.

Any way I'm still looking for boxes and she was suppose to come back to me 2 weeks ago. They keep on telling me there no more stuff but every now and again another box or part of furniture is found. I need to write her mother an e-mail and she pleaded not to because I stress them out and she is tired of my s...

Its been 5 months and still no luck. What do I do. Your thoughts please, I cannot start a fight , its important to handle this with care.

PS My payment for storage was furniture and not cash as I am unemployed.

Did you have any sort of contract written up with them?

No , unfortunately not. She is or was a trusted friend.

Unfortunately if you didn't have an itemized list then she can claim you offered her anything she took.
Especially since 6 months turned into 6 more months they can claim that they are entitled to twice as much as you originally offered.

If you are saying that it has been 5 months since you went to get your stuff and you haven't taken it to court by now that is likely against you too because a Judge would want to know why it took you so long to get it to court and they most likely won't want to sort it all out with there being no written agreement.
