My friend Khaled is from Egypt.

He got here in the US 11 years ago.

He became a citizen 2 months ago.

He is married to a girl in Egypt - who bore his son (there in Egypt) April 2007.

Khaled will be visiting Egypt this summer. Can he bring his son home to the US with him?

Does the son have to go through the Green Card process?

Khaled has heard that he can just go to the US Embassy in Egypt and show that he is a US Citizen.

Is this correct?. or is the issue complicated by the fact that his son was born before he officially became a citizen of the US?

Khaled's wife is going through the Green Card process as we speak...

In short, then: What steps need to be taken to get Khaled's son here and for him to be a US Citizen?

Thanks!

After the child was born, he should have filed the FS-240, Consular Report of Birth Abroad at the US embassy or AMCON. If he did the son is recognized as the child of a USC. He can apply for a U.S. passport on behalf of the child. If he has not, he must do so before the child turns 18. For more information go to http://travel.state.gov/law/info/overseas/overseas_703.html

RickJ, thank you for your work on this site.

So to clarify; will it be an issue that Khaled only became a citizen 2 months ago... and his son is 2 yrs old now?

I think you answered his question clearly, but he asks me to reiterate:

i just became a usa citizen 2 month ago and my son is 2 years old he was born in egypt and he lives there since he was born . my question is when i go back to egypt this month am i able to bring him back to the states with me ? if i took him to the usa embassy there in egypt can get him a usa passport or because he was born before i became citizen i have to go threw the( I 130) petition and aplay for it from here in the states?

My mistake, I didn't read your post carefully. The child will need to immigrate along with his mother.

Thank you for clarifying that. I've pointed Khaled to this thread to read for himself.

So fooey... it sounds like the issue is that he became a US citizen after his son was born. Is that the bottom line of it?
