Need to know what to do with the red wire coming from the ceiling

You've got to tell us more than that. How many wires in ceiling box and what color. Do you have a switch for the fan and a switch for the light? Is this new installation or are you replacing a fan/light?

This is likely a 3 way switch but we need more details so answer harold's questions please.
