Random question, but are there any concerns with storing power tools in an unconditioned attic? It gets pretty hot and humid here, would it do any damage to store a miter saw, air compressor, etc. up in the attic?

Thanks!

A lot depends on your climate. Our temps range from 30 below to 125 above in the attic, this will allow frost to develop and melt every day during the winter causing rust and other dampness related damage. I would not store any tool other than garden tools in a attic.

The things I would worry about are any rubber parts such as valves to an air compressor and even power cords. My attic is not humid. It just subjects things to high temperature extremes. Appliances stored there seem to have no problems.

There is a protectant or you can use WD-40 to oil down surfaces that may rust.

It's not a preferred place to store something, but I wouldn't have any major concerns. Most modern materials should not be affected by attic storage.

Anything that can rust, I'd store in a bag full of dessacant material or have it oiled. I did the oil thing in a machine shop routinely.
