Hi, I signed a 12 month lease in December for a privately owned condo that I love. However, in January I was laid off from my job and have been doing contract work since. I have been offered a full-time job which I must take since I am the sole provider to my son. The job is in Virginia though and would obviously require me to break my lease and move there. I plan on giving my landlord 30 days notice, with rent paid through to that time. I cannot however afford 2 rents after I move to Virginia in a few weeks. Any suggestions on how to handle this situation? I have a great rental history and do not want this to mark me in the future. Thanks!

Contact your landlord immediately and let them know your situation. Hopefully they'll work with you to find someone to either take over your lease or sign a new lease. NJ requires that the landlord make a good faith effort to re-rent the property but if you and your landlord work together you'll have a better chance of success. But don't wait--let your landlord know right now what's going on.
