I got fired from a job and when I went to return the shirts I had to wear there they said I didn't return them in time so I will not get my paycheck. I was never told about that when they fired me and I was away at school for about 3 weeks. They will not give me my paycheck for the entire pay period which is almost 300.00. Can they do that? I tried to return the shirts two other times and they said the main manager wasn't there to fill out the paperwork. Please help. Thank you. Vanessa

Talk to your state's dept of labor.

No they can not do that, be sure to keep records of when you tried to return them and what employee you talked to.
You should report them to the dept of labor or you may sue them in small claims court

Playing devil's advocate here - it's not what was said when you were fired that matters. It's what you were told when you were HIRED.
This is a common practice when it comes to items with a company logo and when keys to an establishment are involved.

Agreed to a certain extent. Its certainly common to withhold the final check until company property is returned. But I don't think a time limit can be put on it. Nor can anything more be withheld then the value of the items.
