All programs ceased to work: including desktop icons and start menu programs. I can access AIM (Aol Instant Messenger). No my computer, no control panel, no system restore or other system programs. I can access run, but once you find something it will not open anything. Every time I click on any of this I get the " Windows Explorer error etc..." This problem occurred after deleting some spywares and files called "Kontiki". Thanks

Can you post the exact error message you receive?

Can you start up a DOS terminal?

In most cases, you can start one from the "run" dialog by typing

command
(Under windows 9x/ME)

or

cmd
(Under windows 2000/xp)

If you can, try running programs from there... see if any error messages appear.

The only info I can find for kontiki is that it is CNET's download manager. Probably they bundled the spyware with it. CNET says it's not spyware, but a lot of other sites do. I couldn't find any similar cases though.

Anther suggestion that probably won't work: Try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and see if any weird applications are running.
You might also end-task explorer and see if it reloads itself.

You might also give the Microsoft registry checker a try.
You could also try scandisk while you're at it, but it probably won't help. :)

hope this helps...
