My wife and I were separated and we have three children. I moved in to a 1 room studio and signed a 1 year lease. 6 months in the lease, my wife was involved in a serous car accident and was unable to care for our children. Since ths studio was inadequete to support three chidren, we had to move in with my mother. So I had to break my lease. I still owed rent for six more months. Now I understand I signed a legal contract. But as a father, I am obligated to provide for my children. Now I am being sued for the remainder of the lease. I do not feel this is ethically and morally correct. What was I to do? My children needed my full support, Their mother was in the hospital in serious condition. Please advise me on what I should do.
Thank You

Well you said you moved into your mother's house, why could you not pay the balance of the rent owed while living with your mother (for free I assume?).

How long ago was this, is there still time to find a new tenant to take over the remaining months on your lease?
