Landlord and myself signed a lease on 4/21 for rental of a single family home. Security deposit was given and the check was cashed by landlord. Occupancy is to begin 6/1.
The landlord was given an offer by a third party to purchase the home. Landlord would rather sell home than rent it. Can the landlord legally in the state of IL break the lease to sell the home or do I have the right to the terms of the lease, which are for a 2 year occupancy?

No, the landlord does not have the right to break the lease in order to sell the house unless he reserved that right within the lease. He can sell it but the new owner has to honor the terms of the lease.

Unless you really love this house and desperately want to rent it for 2 years, you might be better off negotiating a buyout with the landlord. Let him pay you 3 or 4 months worth of rent to cancel the lease.
