Sometimes when I read threads I get a picture of what people look like and where they live and so on and so on. I always find it interesting when I read threads from around the world. I thought maybe those of you who wanted to participate just tell us where your from.

I personally live in upstate NY. When most people say upstate they mean Albany or that area. I am truly upstate! I am minutes from the canadian border. I travel there often for no reason other then something to do. I live in a tiny town called Madrid. We have one caution light, one store, no gas station. But we have 2 bars and a post office!!

Well it's a huge mall for us. Watertown is much closer for us but Syracuse is fun. Here we basically have JC Penny and Sears and that's about it. We have a mall but its useless. Have you been to our casino? Welcome to the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino! (http://www.mohawkcasino.com/)

My home is approximately 35 miles west/southwest of Chicago (east of Chicago is Lake Michigan, go east, get wet) in a nice little village of about 70,000 people. It's a beautiful, quiet place with green rolling hills of mostly private homes, a nice mall, great golf course (ranked 11th in the nation) and we have an airport.

But the site below is of Chicago, take a moment and flip through the pics of the city by people who visit the city, has almost everything, especially great food, museums, great fishing and entertainment. Not exotic but a big city with a midwest attitude and mostly friendly people:

Now now, throwing out tick granules for guests is a very welcoming gesture! If you don't want guests to stay around, you don't mow the yard, let the ticks get "real thick", borrow a few of the neighbors hound dogs to keep on the porch (to add to the tick population). Nothing will get rid of an unwanted guest faster than having 200-300 seed ticks crawling up their leg en masse. Picture a small, bloodthirsty army that won't come off your body unless you have a good roll of duct tape handy!

Tick granules also kill chiggers. Whole other conversation.

That's a little more frightening than the chispider, huh?

Summers here are very nice, very warm, actually hot! Contrary to popular belief, we don't live in igloos and there are no polar bears where I live in Canada. Sneezy was so disappointed when he heard that. :p

I've never met an Eskimo and never seen a penguin in the wild. I don't have a dog sled or a team of dogs to pull it (actually, I'm half way there, 3 dogs, only need 3 more and I could get a sled )

I don't say eh, or aboot, and I don't know anyone named Nanook. I've never had frost bite and I've never had seal meat. :p

Hee, hee, just some common misconceptions about Canada. Yes, there are Canadian provinces that offer all of the above and more, but not Alberta. We're actually one of the warmest Canadian province.

LOL, hey I have had those Brown County Indiana ticks on me, and I prefer an Arkansas tick any day... Do you guys fertilize them or something?

In all seriousness, lived in Anderson, IN for 6 yrs, and camped a lot in Brown County. Beautiful there, almost like home. 'Cept for those HUGE ticks y'all grow, no amount of duct tape would help in THAT situation.

Don't stay away, as in my first post, yew all are funny, and I'll put out the tick granules if you ever visit!

Exaggeration and story tellin' is a true "Southern Art Form", in my opinion. Take plain truth, then add generous spice for flavor. Gently fold in a generous amount of humor. Then add sprinklings from life lessons learned to decorate. Serve up with love and good ol' sweet tea.

And if you are in Brown County any given weekend, look up my in-laws, they are there. Fighting the big 'ol ticks.

I am out in that area every once in awhile. I don't reckon I have seen any of those ticks out there. It's a pretty close drive from here. I am in Lawrence county right next to Monroe County, which is right next to Brown.

We do get some pretty big ticks around here every once in awhile. A couple of summers ago, I had to get out the tweezers and pluck them off my dog and burn them. I think I counted about 20 or so, but She didn't get them that much after but did die at the end of that summer. :(

I didn't realize ticks were such a problem. Please throw extra tick granules just for me.

The chispider/tarantula is highly scary to me, but I am arachnophobic.

Chispider freaked me out!! Arachnaphobia is my highest phobia! Ticks next! Will always throw out extra granules for visitors!!

Tick war has already been started and under control! Yard was treated with granules after hubby bitten. Ticks are horrid in the rural areas if yards not kept, and granules put out in spring and again in late summer. Several different kinds of ticks abound in Arkansas, including the very real "seed" ticks that do get on a person en masse, and are about 1/2 the size of a period.. They crawl quickly and in a group so easy to see in the brown moving mass! Usually a person gets them by walking/standing next to high grass/weeds/brush, etc. that they are nested on.

Best way to get them off is to pull off a strip of duct tape and... pull them up!! Before they latch on!! Then run for the shower!!

Chigger story, anyone?

I learned while I lived in Raleigh that you need to heat a pin and stick it into the tick, this makes them remove their head and you can get them off. The problem with just picking them off is that their head remains in the skin and that is a serious problem that causes major infection problems. Just random knowledge picked it and stored in my 'random knowledge' file in the back of my brain.

I wish I could hear you say it though, lol.

That's hilarious about the thunder thing though. It's not that big of a deal but to some people it is. last time I went was when I was 9 and I remember my stepdad using my bookbag for school to fill full of beer and it stunk like it for awhile after. Lol

Was told it's supposed to be pronounced 'lowville'.

I really wanted to go to Thunder while I was down there. All the hype I couldn't help but be interested.

There were some great nurses there and since my ex-husband was so young, when he recovered they drown us with gifts, mostly from the Derby.

They actually refused to let me stay at my hotel because they didn't want to miss one single derby family and they didn't want to give me my hotel/hospital rate that was like $18/night.

Unky, can you do me a favor and tell me how much the hotels are to stay in? I am sure I could afford that but not the flight trip, I looked into going to indonesia and the hotels were affordable but the plane tickets round trip were 2500 dollars. Big bummer. Is it a huge island with any airports or just air strips? Lol

Some areas can be quite dreary much of the year, but it makes up for it with the lush landscape!. but you will find sunshine as well. You'll find palm trees in some areas in the south... not what you would normally think of when you think England!

We are the main port of entery on the eastern side of Washington state and our town has absolutely no stop signs or lights running north-south through the mile and a half long city limits. The first McDonalds coming through from Canada is at the first stop light on the left which is actually 50 miles and 3 towns away!

Hello Tick, I don't know exactly what Crass means but let me break that down for you real quick. Sorry if it was offensive.

You were close there sneezy.
I live in Indiana and I am a huge colts fan.
A couple of years ago before the Colt's played the Bears in the superbowl
There was a joke going around saying, "have you ever seen a horse F a bear? Well, you will this Sunday in the superbowl"

I was saying if he recalls to that the Colts did in fact beat the Bears in that Superbowl.

It was just a joke.
