I have a shed in my backyard, it sit on a cement pad about 3-4 inches off the ground. I have carpenter bees drilling holes in the 1x3 under the wood siding in the front of the shed. There are quite a few males flying around to the point that the children cannot enter the yard without being swarmed.
I am looking for ways to get rid of them. Everything that I have read online is about treating them boring into houses or even sheds, in places that are easy obtainable. I don't know how to go about getting close enough to the underpart of my shed and what would I use to get rid of them. I have read that only the female will sting when provoked, but they are annoying to the family.

thanks,

Yep, they are very annoying. doyourownpestcontrol.com has a few products.

There is a spray that works directly on the bees and then there is a product called "delta dust".

You would normally buy a sprayer and spray it into each of the holes, but that can come later.

They are less active at night.

If you know where they are exiting, then a small strip of "delta dust" will work effectively. They crawl on it and brig the dust bck to the holes. The dust does not wash off with rain. Odd stuff.

The best treatment for Carpenter bees is directly into the holes to be certain of getting them. KISS's Delta Dust is a good product but it is rendered inactive by moisture because it clumps together. Preventing them next year will involve sealing the wood with something like a polyurethane or exterior latex.
