Hello Guys
I am trying to install a new Honneywell RTH6300B but I am a litle confused
I have the following wires
Yellow
Red
White
Green and
Blue
Where do I put the blue wire?
On the terminal I have the following
G
W
Not Used
Y
R
Rc
I am confused when I purchased this unit I was told that anyone can get thos unit installed. I have noticed on my older thermostadt that the BLUE wire wasn't attached, I also couldn't see on the old themsostadt where each wire was connected to.
I need help before paying someone $300 to plug in wires.
Any suggestions are highly appriciated.
Thank you

The "not used" terminal is most likely a C terminal(common). Put the blue to c, and make sure to hook the blue wire up to c at the furnace board. Let us know if you have more questions about this. We will do 0ur best to help.

Hello
When you say "put the blue to C" what do you mean by that? The connections I have aviabile on the new therostadt are G W Not Used Y R and Rc I don't see a C to connect the blue wire.
Thank you

I have a White wire coming out of the wall. I am trying to figure it out where each wire goes.
I would assume that:
W - White
Y - Yellow
R - Red
G - Green
When I put the BLUE wire to Rc My AC starts working and the heat at the same time. When I leave Blue out and connect the jumper to R and Rc I can't get the AC to turn on.
I am confused

OK, if there is no c terminal. Just leave the blue unhooked. You should be fine. The blue wire was not hooked up to the old thermostat, so it won't need to be hooked up to the new one. Just hook red to r, white to w, yellow to y, green to g
There should be a jumper between r and rc, just leave it in and hook r to r.
If you have a terminal that says not used, then your thermostat does not require a common. Just hook the wires up to the same letters as the old thermostat and you will be set. Please keep me posted.

Can you post a picture of your thermostat leads? And possibly a pic of the area where your thermostat wires hook to your furnace?

OK just wire it
r- red
y-yellow
w-white
g-green
Rh-rc jumpered.
Do not use the blue.
Then touch r to y with a piece of wire or pair of needle nose plyers. If the ac works then you probably need to do a installer setup on your stat. if it does not work then you may have blown a fuse at your furnace.

Ok I connected
White - W
Yellow - Y
Red - R
Green - G
RC + R Jummped
Then I turned on the power to the furnace and touched Y + R with pliers, but once I turned the power to the furnace, the furnace came on right away. When I put the cover on to set the temperature and to select AC nothing happens I can hear the furnace working but no AC. The fan is blowing air but no AC. The unit outside is not working. I also can't turn anything off from the thermostat I have to flip the switch to the thermostat. When I select OFF on the thermostat the furnase continues to work. Im not sure what is going on.
I have to turn it off by the main furnace switch.

When you say the furnace came on as soon as you turned on the switch, do you mean heat came on or just the blower? What brand furnace do you have?
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 07:06 PM
Just the blower no heat
KemalZuko

When I turn on the Switch the blower comes on after a few minutes heat comes on and ater a few minutes it comes off. I see no name on the furnes except for Weis...
Right now the fan is blowing, and heat comes on and off every few minutes, termostat is set to Cool.

Some furnaces have a 1:30 blower on period as soon as you turn the power on have you ever noticed this before. Just a thought. If that is not it sounds like you may have a wire acidently touching anouther somewhere on the t stat
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 07:13 PM
OK does you t-stat have a installer setup? Sounds like you may be set for heatpump instead of gas furnace!

Hello THank you for the help
I will have to call honnewell tomorrow, when I checked the installer setup I don't see half of those options they show me in the book. Im not sure that I need all of those but the once I can see look to be correct.
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 07:44 PM
You need to look at the system type option.
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 07:44 PM
I think that one is your problem, shold be on conventinal heat with ac
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 07:49 PM
Well I think I got everything correct
There are 4 screen that match my setup
1. Use setting 1 if you have Gas, oil or electric heating with central airconditioning
3. use setting 0 if you have a gas or oil heating system
5. Use setting 5 if you have a standard gas or oil furnace that is less than 90% efficiant.
14. Use setting 0 if you want your temperature to be displayed in F.
Those 4 setting I got on my termostat saved but not able to turn on AC
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 07:53 PM
OK set 1 to 0
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 07:54 PM
Set 3 to 0
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 07:54 PM
Set 5 to 3
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 07:56 PM
1 is on 0
And 3 is on 0
5 is on 5
And 14 is on 0
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 07:58 PM
OK then the t-stat shold be set up fine. Lets see what else we can try
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 07:59 PM
Was yellow used on the old t-stat?
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:00 PM
Yes yellow was used in the old one every color except for blue
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 08:09 PM
OK take the front of the t-stat off so you can see the wires. Then we will do some tests
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:11 PM
Taken off I can see the wires
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 08:12 PM
OK with a pair of needle nose plyers, or a wire touch between r and g and see if the fan comes on.
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:15 PM
Well here is the problem, I can't turn off the furness/fan from the t-stat, I have to turn it off by the switch, now when I do that and touch those wires the fan can't come on or can it?
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 08:16 PM
With the t-stat off so you can see the wires when you turn the furnace switch back on nothing should run if it does then you have a problem at the furnace.
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:18 PM
Yes when the t-stat off I can see the wires, I go back and turn on the switch the furnest starts working,
What could be wrong with it?
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 08:20 PM
Take the red wire off the r terminal and try it then an tell me if it runs

Apr 26, 2009, 08:21 PM

Furnace type is Gas with AC. Correct?
Blue wire was not used. Correct?
XXXX Yellow Red White Green

I want you to complete this table by connecting only two wires. The "-" ed entries don't complete. The "_" is there because AMHD reduces multiple spaces to one space.
One of the following should happen. Put the number in the proper place.
1. Nothing happens
2. AC unit alone turns on
3. Fan turns on
4. Heat turns on & Fan turns on eventually
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:21 PM
With the red wire off the furnest runs when I turn on the switch

The heat or the blower runs?
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:28 PM
JoshDta
When I disconect all the wires and turn on the furnes on the on/off switch it still turns on and runns
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:29 PM
The blowe runns right now, I don't feel any heat

Apr 26, 2009, 08:30 PM

Go down look in the bottom door and see if your unit is flashing a fault code. There should be a sight glass
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:37 PM
I don't see a glass door everything is metal and it's enclosed, the only door I can open is where you can light up the gass
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 08:38 PM
Well the control board shold be in the lower door with the blower inless you have a down flow furnace. Then the blower will be on top.
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:40 PM
Well I am in a condo so I have a small room, the furness is on the bottom and the blower is on the bottom too, I know that because I took the filter off and I can see the blower.
Joshdta
Apr 26, 2009, 08:43 PM
OK no control board there?
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:44 PM
How does a control board look like ? I see the blower through the filter opening on the wall.
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:46 PM
No id don't see anything, the blower is exposed nothing around it has some wires connected to it that is all.

Turn off furnace.
Take all wires off the stat.
Tape the blue wire.
Connect two wires at a time.
Connect yel to red; Turn on furnace. What happens; turn off furnace
Connect yel to white; what happens; turn off furnace
Connect yellow to Green; what happens; turn off furnace.
Keep filling out the table with the number corresponding to what happens.
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 08:53 PM

KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 09:02 PM
I connected Yel to Red- turned the furness on - Furnes turned on - I turned the furnes off.
The same sequance happened whan I connected yell to Green, Yellow to White
It doesn't matter if I have anything connected if I turn the furness on it turnes on and blows.

Apr 26, 2009, 09:03 PM
I was.
I think the rest of the guys are trying to see where the tstat wires connect to. If you go that route, you have to follow the wires.
If your confident that blue wasn't used, then filling out the table will work.
There may be up to a 5 minute delay on the AC unit, but I doubt it.

When I took the old tstat off the blue ire was taped with electric tape. Im not sure if the furness should turn on when all the wires are disconectted?
KISS
Apr 26, 2009, 09:12 PM
Wha about the rest of the table?
Like red to yel, red to white, red to green etc.
Did you wait long enough to see if the burners ignited.
The furnace should not turn on with the wires of the tstat disconnected. If it does, then there is something wrong.
KISS
Apr 26, 2009, 09:15 PM
If the furnace turns on with no tstat wires connected then,
1. The wiring is faulty from the tstat to the furnace -or-
2. The blower relay is stuck closed.
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 09:15 PM
The furness turns on while all the wires are disconected from the tstat
KemalZuko
Apr 26, 2009, 09:16 PM
How can I fix that problem than?
KISS
Apr 26, 2009, 09:24 PM
You have to disconnect the wires at the furnace.
Wires disconnected at furnace
1. blower turns on (see more troubleshooting)
2. Blower off; wiring issue
More troubleshooting
1. blower relay
1a If blower relay mounted on control board - replace control board
2. Limit control

I think you made the right decision to have it professionally looked at. Your pics indicate that the unit has not been serviced for quite some time. There is too much dust.

In your last pic, I see that your thermostat wires are connected directly to the transformer(left of the gas valve, mounted on a four by four metal box. Wright down where these wires go, and unhook them all. Now see if blower runs when power is turned on to furnace. Im betting you have a short in your thermostat wires between stat and furnace, or you have a bad transformer. At this point I agree that you would be best to call in an onsight tech. However if you disconnect the t stat wires from the transformer in furnace, it will help us gain a little more knowledge about your problem. Good luck and please let us know how things turn out.
