My husband and I are trying to get my children adopted from the biological father. For some reason, unknown to me, he is contesting it. He has not seen or spoken to the children in more than 3 years. He hasn't paid child support in over 9 months. He's never paid it regularly so he's in arrears over $23,000. I found out from research online that he has drug convictions that he is ordered to pay fines on and domestic violence case that he has not paid. He lost a very good paying job in our state because of drugs and now says he is "self-employed" and cannot afford an attorney or to pay his child support. He left the state shortly after our divorce became final and has never had any regular visitation with the children. The children are 9 and 7 and want my husband to adopt them, they call him dad. Is there any chance the court is going to give their biological father a second chance even though the judge told him that he had to get the visitation changed and in 5 years hasn't?
