I have a ceiling fan that my niece pulled the string out of I need help on how to replace it can any one help me

The part that came out in her hand, was it all string or was there some chain on it?

Get up close to the fan and inspect where the chain was mounted to the fan. You will see a very small horn for the chain to go inside, do you see any chain hanging out of the horn?
