Hello!

I have an Armstrong Ultra SX 90 furnace with a chronic problem. The condensate "Y" trap (or Flue Trap) leaks at seams.

The trap is made of two pieces joined together with some glue but leaks at the seam of the two pieces. I have replaced this part three times (and its $90/piece plus service cost) but same problem.

There is only one mfg of this part (that I know): Allied Air. They say there is no recall on the part.

Does anyone else have this problem? Please help with any suggestions. The last time water leaked and damaged the circuit board in the chamber below.

You should be able to take that apart. It is 2 pieces then get you some red hi temp sylicone. And your good as new. Make sure to remove all the old gaset before you aply new.

That is a good idea. Though the two parts are joined together with glue (mostly) + some type of mechanical compression/lock (two places). I won't be able to take the pieces apart without breaking the compression/lock - and then I run the risk of causing a larger crack. This is a bad, bad design and I am surprised why someone has not redesigned it.

I may try applying red hi temp silicone on the joints inside and out. If I fail, I can't take the part as I will null the warranty (1 year) but it just may be worth experimenting.


Apparently at one time the company went to a non-seam design but reverted back to the seam-based later.
