How come my Syrian Hmaster is tryng to get out of his cage all of a sudden. The first 2 weeks after I got him he was fine. And since the night before last he's been chewing on the bars and scratching at the plastic.
***I own a habitrail playground as seen in the pic below:

Most hamsters will chew at bars and try to escape. The only thing you can really do apart from making sure he can't is give him lots to interact with and try to make sure he is never bored.

Do you get him out for regular runs and play time?

Hamsters are notorious escape artists. There isn't a cage built that can hold in a determined hammy.
If your little guy does get out, don't worry too much. Just put the cage on the ground and leave the door open. Once he's done exploring he'll come back. The only thing to worry about is Rex and your cat.

Thanks you guys. I do take him out a few times daily and put him in his little ball.
Rex isn't who I worry about, but our two cats. Who have to be supervised very closely, sneaky little buggers... one minute there their the next there not...
