My husband ran into a problem with the installing of the tub. We have this flange kit - had no instructions - my husband thought he had it figured out. WE had completely tore the whole bathroom down. He put up the drywall - waited weeks to get the drywall mudded and finised then put the tub in and cemented in and went to put up flange to put on surround and found out the flange was suppose to have gone on before drywall and drywall comes down over flange. Cannot change now but can we put flange on edge of tub with silicone just for a little more protectant and install the surround anyway?

Are you going to install tile around the jac. Tub ?
Yes, the flange should be under the drywall. You can take drywall knife and cut off 1 1/2" strip of drywall, install the flange and fill the gap with "20 minute" patching compound. Not a big deal to do...

Thank you for answering. No we are putting up tub surround and was wondering if we could skip the flange and just put up surround but my husband said there was too much gap to not use flange.

Go with your husband's gut feeling. The flange is there for reason. It is lot easier to do it now rather than later when all work will be done.
If you are putting in tub surround than you can cut the drywall, install the flange and patch the wall. You put surround over it and nobody will see the cut.
