I have a G.E. dryer that will start in any cycle but stops part way through. It will not start up for a few minutes after it stops and the timer does not continue to run after it shuts off. I initially thought this would be the timer but was wondering if it could be the overload in the motor or both. Unit is about 4 years old and didn't know if it would be better to just replace.

cmrdux - it sounds like it is the timer switch;; to check it out .#1 unplug the power from the wall or turn breaker off ,pull dryer out from the wall ; #2- remove the top control panel ; { note - you will need a volt-ohm meter in order to test the timer switch::you can pick one up at "lowes or home depot in the electrical dept> for about $10.00 dollars; get one that you can test at least 250 volts a/c current:: } #3- set the meter to rx1 scale ; find the timer control < remove one of the wires going to the timer < next - clip the meter probs to the wire terminals :: #4
Turn the knob on the timer to the normal dry- if the meter reads {zero ohms} the timer is good :but if the meter reads high -the timer is defective and need to be replaced :: { note } on some modles the switches are all combined and need to be tested only by a appliance service repairman: : if yours is not like this <to replace it:: pull the knob off <remove the wires going to the timer< remove the screws that mount the swuitch in place and pull the timer ouy:: replace it in reverse of the removel:: hope this helps <if not come back on this post and just holler:>l have a great day and god bless ::f.b.e.
