Hi,

I am in the US, DC for a 3 month period and signed a lease for a room in a 4 bedroom house a bit in a hurry. Anyway, it turns out that the place is not suitable for me since I spend far too much time commuting to work. The lease I signed is for a fixed period of about 3 months starting 4 days ago. But I did not get a copy of the lease nor did I see the landlord signing. He indicated some temporary difficulties copying.

Now I would like to know, what are my options to get prematurely out of the lease so that I will be able to rent something which is closer to work? I don't want to make trouble, I only want to know what my usual rights are in this case.

Many thanks!

I only want to know what my usual rights are in this case.Hello JR:

Sorry. You have NO rights. You DO have an opportunity to negotiate your way out of your lease. I'd offer two months rent in cash.

Ok, I spoke too soon. You do have ONE right. If you cannot come to an agreement, the landlord MUST rent your room as soon as he can to limit your losses... That ain't bad.
