I had custody of my granddaughter from almost a year until she was 6 years old. After my
Daughter got her act together, she remarried and I agreed to to terminate my guardianship in the best interest of all. Her new husband adopted my granddaughter and soon it will be a year that she was adopted & my daughter regained custody. I have my granddaughter every weekend and still help financially for items that she needs including
Medical. My daughter is now fighting cancer and my granddaughter has expressed since
She went back to her Mom that she wants to come back and live with me. We are more bonded as mother and daughter than grandmother and granddaughter due to the years I was her sole guardian and caregiver. If my daughter dies what are the odds of me getting her back. Due to the step-father's personality I don't expect him to just let her come back without a fight. He has issues but nothing that would hold up in court. He's kind
Of a control freak since the adoption & I would expect a real battle in court.

Unless you can prove the father (if he adopted her he's NOT a step father) is a danger to the child you stand no chance of getting custody. Depedning on the state you live in, you may be able to get visitation,
