well i am goin to the beach this weekend and i want to tone a little bit. i realize that it is absolutely impossible to lose a significant amount of weight in 4 days. i just want to start toning so that i will be in shape before summer. i am definately NOT overweight i just have excess weight in my stomach and thighs. so can you please give advice on how to tone those areas and also how to cover it up while im at the beach. thank you so much for your help! it is appreciated! :D

Exercise. Leg and abdominal exercises should tone the areas you are concerned with. I have found tha crunches on an exercise ball pretty effective at toning the midsection and lunges or a stairmaster for the thighs and butt.
If you have extra weight though, toning may not be enough. You might need to burn it off the old fashioned way (diet and exercise).

I'm pretty much in the same situation as you... wanting to tone up. As stevetcg said, you have got to get moving. I have found swimming works well for me, but I know location can play a role in how accessible that may be. Many mornings, I hate the idea of going, I have to push myself when I am there, but I feel great when I am done and I know it will get me where I want to be. I do some sort of exercise every single day... and use free weights several times a week. Come up with some fun ideas... bike riding, dancing, kayaking, etc. once in awhile to make it interesting.
You have plenty of time before summer to see a great difference, the key is to keep at it... even when you don't want to. See if you can get a friend or family member to work out with you... that can keep you both motivated and also you will have someone to push you on those days you start coming up with any excuse you can think of to avoid it!
After awhile, it will become just part of your day... and it won't be long before you find you actually miss it if you do skip a day or two for some reason.
Find a role model if that helps... someone who has worked hard to get where they are. Even better, and a real killer, is to find someone even older than you who is in great shape and worked hard to get there... :)
