I got myself in trouble back in 1996 when I was around 21 years of age and I spent some time in co. jail the things is that I was charged with a felony, I fled California and spent 10 years away form trouble but then I tried to go back to the states and got caught in the border and spent 6 mo. In prison that was a year ago, my question is whould I be able to enter canada through the border lagaly?

Hello jesse:

In a word, no. They have some sort of process where you can apply some time after your conviction... But, with such a recent conviction, I'm sure you won't be eligible.

Yeah if you had dealt with this 13 years ago and served the time you could apply to enter Canada and there is a process where you can prove you are rehabilitated.

However leaving from the US and being convicted of a new crime last year will not make that possible.

I'm sure if you go to an immigration lawyer they will suggest something they can try (I don't know every loophole) but my guess is any application will be denied.
