I am asking about my Granddaughter's older Chevy Malibu. When she drives it, it will just stop. Does anyone have an idea what it could be?

What year? What size engine, if possible?

2000 Malibu V6 shuts down after car runs. After it shuts down once, it will shut down quite often. It also seems to happen at accelerated speed when up to 72 mph.

. Check for codes.
. Replace the Ignition Control Module (ICM):

. Replace the coil packs:

. Ensure platinum spark plugs (ACDelco only) don't have more than 40,000 miles on them.
Most likely the ICM is the culprit. Disconnect the negative battery terminal, before beginning work. It should be simple to fix and take little time. Even though there's no picture of the BWD (Borg Warner) ICM, it should work just fine and is much cheaper. ICMs are problematic components, which contain a microchip inside. Heat damages the chip, over time. I recommend replacing them (and coils) every 120,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.
