This concerns a deep weel water pump for our irrigation system. Our system was working fine until we had to have the checkvalve repalced. This is a deep well pump in casing about 140 feet below the surface. It is a 10 HP pump. The well company pulled the pump out and changed the check valve and reinstalled the pump. The pressure gage shows on at 35 psi and off at 60 psi. The problem we are having is that the pressure drop is so great we can't set the sprinkler heads properly. Example, when the pump shuts off at 60 psi they shoot water 25 feet but then the stream drops off to ten feet when it gets to 35 psi. If we raise the on pressure to say 40 lbs and drop the cut off pressure to 55 psi we think it would give us a more even flow however, won't this cause the pump to cycle more often and be too hard on it?? Looking for some suggestions other than calling the well guy back and spending more $$$.

1. How large is your pressure tank? With a 10 horse pump 140' down, I would think it would take some kind of big tank arrangement.

2. What were your pressure settings before you installed the check valve?
