Do we need to have all the receipts to claim moving expenses in form 3903 ? Do I need to attach these receipts with my tax return ?
Since I had no idea about moving expense deduction I didn't keep any receipts in most cases. I had some reciepts but I threw them away/lost while moving to new apartment :(
Any help is appreciated ! The moving expenses are close to ~3000 dollars

You can claim moving expenses if you meet the requirements. It is deductible even when you do not itemize deductions.

I meet all the requirements - time and distance test- but I don't have the receipts. I have read through all the documents but none explains what happens if you loose your receipts ! And can't prove that you spend that money.

You do not need to attach receipts to your return. But you do need to produce receipts if/when the IRS comes back for proof. If I were you I would put together a journal of expenses with your best conservative estimate of the amounts you spent, and then deduct those that qualify. Be as specific as you can in your journal as to dates, precise amounts spent, who you paid, etc. That way if the IRS comes back for more info you will be able to remember how you arrived at the numbers on your tax return. But be aware that they still might disallow the deduction if you can't produce actual receipts.

One other thought - if you used a credit card to pay any of these expenses you should be able to get your old credit card statements on line. Again, not the same as having a true receipt, but it could be helpful.
