I live in Ohio but my husband remarried 16 years ago and lived in different states. I haven't seen my son in 16 years and just found him. He said that his step mother adopted him and his sister years ago. How do I go about finding out if it is true.

By checking court records. Or asking their father for a copy of the adoption paperwork.

If there was contact between you and the father, it's HIGHLY unlikely that the adoption was legal.

If, however, there was absolutely no contact, then your parental rights COULD have been severed for an adoption to go through, with the announcement being placed in newspapers for you to respond to, in order for you to prevent it at the time.
