Well it is that time of year again and American Idol is in full swing. And once again I have been sucked in... Anyhoo, just wanted to get your thoughts on who you like, who you don't like. Who you think is going to win it all. Also wondering what you think of the new "judges save" this year. I personally think it is a good idea, however it has its flaws. The rule is that they can use it up until there are five contestants left. They referenced to years past when Daughtry got sent home and a few others. Unless I am mistaken I think in the past years when those upsets happened we were way below 5 members being left. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Also, I think it makes for a very uncomfortable moment between the contestants and the audience. It is bad enough that they find out that not enough people voted for them, then they have to sing again and hear one more time from the judges that they still aren't good enough... awkward...
I have to support my hometown though... go danny gokie!!
Anyone feel free to share your thoughts and comments... happy posting.

I saw Simon and the crew on Jay Leno and they all agreed that this year it is going to be a guy.
Since they have changed the rules and the panel has more of a say ,maybe they have picked the winner already.

I think it will be interesting for sure. It seems as though each year they get stronger and stronger singers. My prediction is that the remaining two are going to be Adam and Allison.

C'mon people. This was over weeks ago. Adam is so far ahead in talent its ridiculous. He is, in my opinion, the best talent EVER on the show. Its just amazing to me that he needed AI to get his due.
I predicted long ago that the final two would be Lil and Adam with Adam winning. Lil is the only girl with talent to match up with the guys. The other two will be gone soon. Final 5 will be Adam, Lil, Danny, Scott and Chris. And they will drop in than order (first Chris, etc.)
I also think the judges will save their Save until the last three to make sure Adam gets in the final if America doesn't recognize real talent.

ScottGem, I whole heartedly agreed with you a couple weeks ago. But it seems lately that Lil isn't doing her best. She needs to stick with what she is familiar with. Also don't forget they can't use the "save" once they are down to 5 left. That's what kind of sucks about it. But you are completely right that Adam blows all of them away!! I totally agree!!

I'm curious if you have any musical talent. This is not to put you down, but if you think Adam's performances sounds exactly alike, I would suspect that you don't. The judges clearly don't agree with you as I don't.
Adam has mixed up his performances doing different things, different sounds, different looks. He is so clearly in a class far and away above any other Idol contestant this year and maybe in all the 8 years.

I am beginning to think that AI is rigged to some extent.
I cannot believe that America did not give Adam enough votes that he had only the 4th most votes. No one really knows what the votes are, so that leaves the producers some room to stage things. My belief is that Adam's appearance in the bottom two last night, when he has never, ever been in the bottom three was a put up job by the producers to shake things up. It really didn't matter what the order was as long as the lowest vote getter went bye-bye. So the producers can play whatever games they want to. An interesting sidelight was having Hicks back to perform last night. Hicks was someone who snuck in even when there were much more talented performers that year. So it could have been a warning to voters.
On the other hand, IF the order was real, it could be a blessing for Adam. The lower (alleged) vote total could have been from complacency with people not voting for him because they think everyone else will. So it may spur his fans to make sure they get in the votes for him.
But I will repeat what I have said before. In my opinion Adam is the best performer to EVER grace the Idol stage. Whether he wins or not, will not matter to his career. He will outdo Jennifer Hudson's career achievements quickly.

No, last night they said AMERICA voted a record 64 million times (I had 324 of them). They have NEVER revealed who got how many votes. The most they have done is tell how many votes separated the last two before they kicked one of them.
Kris should have gotten the boot this week not Allison.
Adam has been consistently great week after week. I think there was one week were he wasn't fantastic, but he was still good. Everyone else has had ups and downs. If Adam doesn't win, then the voters are fools.

I can't help but say this and I know there are a lot of Adam fans that will not like my comment but here goes. I think that Adam doesn't "need" to win American Idol. He is going to have a singing career either way, and some record company will snatch him up in a heartbeat.
So having said that I think that America should focus on voting for either Danny or Chris and based on last nights performances, I think it should go to Danny. I find myself focusing more on Chris's mouth movements that he does rather than his singing which the mouth thing is a little distracting. I don't want to criticize him because that is just how he sings but for me its distracting.

I agree that win or lose, Adam will have a career that surpasses any previous Idol contestant including Jennifer Hudson.
However, I think all of the top 5 and most of the top 10 will have good careers based on their Idol exposure. I don't think winning or losing at this point will affect that. So our votes should be based on who we feel is the most talented singer. There is no question in my mind that its Adam. I've felt that way from the very beginning. And I backed that up with 400 votes last night. Its clear the judges think the same way. If Adam does not win, it shows that many voters do not regard this as singing competition but a popularity contest.

I do believe its rigged to some extent, but not at this level.
It just goes to show that American doesn't vote with their ears.
On the other hand Kris has been coming up each week and improving each week.
But Adam has given consistently outstanding performances wek after week. Even in his worse performances, he was still better than many of the other players. NO WAY that Adam should not have been in the final.
I do think Danny should have been there too. But there is no question in my mind and there hasn't been since they got out of Hollywood that Adam was headed to win.
I don't think Kris has the performing chops to make it as a concert performer. He has the vocal talent, but I don't think people will pay to see him in concert. I do think people will pay and pay big to see Adam. I know Adam will be a dominant force in entertainment. Concerts, recordings and movies.
I don't see Kris or even Danny having the impact on the industry that Adam will, win or lose. And people in the industry know it. The judges know it and have for a while.
Its only the teenyboppers eho do the majority of the voting that don't know it.

but i really really dislike Adam.
For some reason, Adam is generating such reactions among a large group of people. It may be his goth like appearance, or his slightly effeminate manner or the sexual orientation thing. Or maybe that he has been pegged the likely winner almost from the beginning and people dislike the front runner. I think that is part of why Danny was sent home early.
While Kris has come on strong during the last few weeks, I still think of him as more of a non-entity, then any of the others.
But for all of those who will vote for someone else because they dislike Adam, I have to remind them that this is a competition for the best singer/performer. The purpose of this competition is to find someone who will be a commercial success as a singer/performer to make more money for the producers of the show. There is no question in my mind (or the minds of many others, especially professionals who have the knowledge to judge, that Adam is that person. I think it's a shame that Adam had to resort to a contrived contest like Idol to get the recognition he so clearly deserves as an outstanding singer/performer. Win or lose he WILL have a better career that Kris.
By the way. I would love to see Adam do a revivial of Rocky Horror as Dr Frankenfurter.

I closed my eyes to listen to him... I don't like his voice. Oh he can sing but it ain't sexy. I like the MALE voice. When a male is singing... he sounds too much like a woman. But I do agree it is a singing competition and he can hit every note unlike Kris. I'm STILL voting for Kris... hee hee. ( sorry if Taylor HICKS can win... ANYONE can... that year it wasn't a singing competition!)

I actually agree with a lot of that. The tongue sticking out bothered me a bit also. But I stopped keeping up with popular music in the 80s. A lot of the music of today turns me off. Like that Katy person who performed last night. I could hardly understand a word she sang. Many of the acts that have appeard on Idol have had me scratching my head. Many of the songs Adam performed I never heard of. But that's one of the reasons I'm so high on him. Even with a song I had never heard of, he made the performance enjoyable. He uses melody and lyrics like very few artists I have encountered. I think that's why the judges are so high on him. I think he's the standout artist they have been searching for since the show began.

And Adam was awesome with them. And Adam was awesome just about EVERY week. I give Kris credit, he grew into a genuine contender And in many other years he would have deserved to win. I think he is better than David Cook.
But Adam took an early lead and was clearly the front runner. He set the bar very high and everyone else came up short in the comparison. Its clear based in the last four years that America doesn't know talent or, at least doesn't vote for talent.
But we will see, Adam will sell more records, have more successful concert tours, do more in the entertainment business then Kris can even dream of.

When I was watching this episode, although I've been supporting him this whole time, when he was finally announced as american 2009, I felt something was wrong. He didn't seem like someone that would win idol, I don't know why but that's how I felt. Don't get me wrong, he's a great singer, but he's too humble. We were talking about this at work tonight. Most coworkers preferred Adam for obvious reasons and because Kris moved around too much, waving his arms, etc. Kris also seemed to be trying too hard last night with playing the guitar and also the piano ("Look how versatile I am!"). Also, many of the disappointed Danny fans from last week jumped on Kris' bandwagon to foil a win by Adam.
I'm guessing (and hoping) we will see a lot more of Adam.

This is the thing I have been saying. Sure Kris is a better story, Awe Shucks, good ole boy from small town Arkansas, Nice family, really battled to improve himself. All of that is true.
But what American Idol is Supposed to be about is to find someone who can sell records and concert seats. Someone who will, essentially, payback the sponsors for their investment in the show by having a successful recording career. From what I've been able to tell, only Clarkson and Underwood, of the previous 7 years have done that, though the jury is still out on Cook. Kris is not in that class and as good as he is and can be, he never will be. Adam, on the other hand, has every indication of being multi-level threat. He will outsell every other Idol contestant on the charts. He will out earn every Idol contestant on tour. I think its possible he will be one of the few to ever win a Grammy, Emmy and Oscar and maybe a Tony. I just think he's that good.
Simon alluded to it in an earlier show, that Adam was just the type of person they have been looking for for 8 years. There is no question in my mind that Adam is the best EVER to grace the Idol stage. Even Kris said that "it should have been Adam." I think all the contestants knew it early on, and the competition was really for 2nd place.
But there is a bright spot here. The winner gets (is required to accept) a contract with the show for recordings etc. I'm not sure if the second place contestant has to accept what the show offers or can negotiate their own deal. If the latter is ture, then its probably better for Adam that he came in 2nd. Because they will be lined up at his door starting first thing this morning. If Adam had won, you would not see the same queue at Kris' door.

I have been reading that Danny's pastor had posted a Twitter begging the Danny-voters to vote for Kris, since both are Christian, and it would be great to have an aw-shucks, down-home, clean, farm-fed Christian boy win AI.
I totally agree with you, Scott. Few would be lined up at Kris's door had he come in second.
