Is it possible for an on line loan company to place a lien against a debtors social security number?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

You cannot put a lien against a social security number. You put a lien against property.
You need to explain the situation better in order to get an answer that is accurate.

As requested by Steve:
I have an online loan from Aug 08, which has gone unpaid. The loan was
Taken out in the state of Ohio.
The company has sought the assistance of a attorney from New York to settle
The outstanding debt.
They contacted me to advise me that the were moving forward
With a Civil Suite and they are placing a lien on my SS number if I don't pay it by
The end of March.
They informed me that the original amount borrowed was $500.00 and the original
Pay back was $579.00 but if I pay it be 3/31/09 they can reduce the amount to
Pay back to $525.00.
Have you or anyone else ever heard of placing a lien lime this, and of so how does
Something like that affect my credit report?
Thanks for your comments and advice

It seems to me that they want you to pay off the loan or they are going to seek a judgement against you. This will affect you until paid off or 20 years.
Is the loan legitimate? How does one take out a loan online? Did you ever sign papers?

First, please don't start a new thread for follow-up. I've merged your threads for you. In the future use the Answer This Question oiptions for follow-up.
First, the lien threat is BS. As noted, you can't place a lien against an SSN. You can use an SSN to place a lien, but only against an asset with value.
Second, Did you borrow this money? Is it true you never made payments on it?
This will have an adverse affect on your credit, assuming they report it. They can go ahead with a suit and gat a judgement against you that they can use to collect.
