I filed for divorce in December of '06. I requested documentation that would provide me relief and shelter from any debts incurred after a set date (Jan 07). Both parties agreed and it was written in my divorce decree. I am currently being harassed by several creditors and currently being sued by a hospital that my ex-wife owes $2400. All of the debts she accrued were after Jan '07 and after my judgement. Why is the judgement that I received not valid for any of these debts? I am being told that I am going to be sued and will have to pay. Then it is my responsibility to sue my ex to recover my losses? What is this and is there anything I can do?

File for dismissal; provide the documents showing that you are not responsible for your ex-wife's debts.

Also, you didn't receive a "judgment"; you and your ex came to a marital settlement agreement. When you refer to a judgment being awarded to you, it sounds as if you sued somebody and won; that's not the case here.

Collectors will often threaten anything to get you to pay. And if you pay them one penny that could be taken as acknowledgement of the debt so don't.

In the unlikely event that they do file suit against you, just go into court with your documentation and have it dismissed.
