I have a black labador, and he is 12 years old. For the last fours days he will not eat his dog food. The only thing I can get him to eat is cold cuts. He use to eat dry food, but then when he stopped eatting it I tried buying him canned food, and still he will not eat dog food. I'm really worried about him, and was just wonder if anyone could please help me out.

Bad idea feeding cold cuts. My dad always said, a dog will eat when he is hungry, but your dog is already, what many would consider in human terms, geriatric. Mix his dry food with some gravy (I will be shot down for this) but you know, he is l2 and he deserves some really tasty food!

I know you're worried but yes, cold cuts are a bad idea. I understand that you are trying to entice him, but that will upset his tummy. Try boiling some chicken breasts or liver, and see if he will try that for the time being. You could also add a little bit of cooked rice, and a little chicken or beef stock for flavouring, but just make sure it's a low sodium brand.

You really need to get him to the vet ASAP. A 12 yr. old dog does not just stop eating for no reason. It's a very good indication that there is definitely something going on healthwise.

He is a senior, and problems can arise without noticeable symptoms sometimes. The sooner you can get him to the vet, the sooner the vet can determine the cause for his loss of appetite. It could be something simple, but it could also be something very serious! You don't want to wait on this. Also, the quicker you find out, the less it will cost you at the vet clinic. Please take him in.

Good luck, and keep us updated.
