I was left a property with a small house when my parents died. There is a trailer on the property which was not part of my inheritance. The people who owned the trailer moved but left it there. They eventually got divorce and although the trailer belonged to the wife and daughters, the wife gave it to the husband in the divorce. She never turned over the title and was never changed in the courts to reflect that this now belongs to him. During the time of the divorce the wife never paid the taxes on this trailer.

Now the city (state of NM) want me to have this trailer removed because it is not livable and in all actuality it is a fire hazard. I agree, but why should I have to pay to have this removed? They called the ex-wife but she passed the buck to the ex-husband and the ex-husband says he cannot do anything without a title. So... because the city has certain laws in which they require for people to maintain their property, they are harassing me and telling me that if I don't do anything about this trailer, they will condemn the entire property including the small house.

Where do I go from here? Who is responsible and how do I handle this without having to pay for their trash trailer?

You could always pay to have it moved, and then sue the title holder in small claims court? (Depends on the cost of removal, I guess.)
