I have a Kenmore (Whirlpool) top-load washer #110.20952991 (mid to late 90s). It quit agitating, and didn't drain either. I assumed it was the normal motor coupling problem (I have replaced it at least twice before), and in fact the coupler was broken. I replaced it, but this didn't correct the draining problem, although I was able to get it to drain on spin after emptying all the clothes and bailing some of the water. I checked online and various sources (including this one) said to check the filter and pump. Pump was OK, filter had a small piece of mangled wire stuck in it and quite a bit of built-up calcium deposits. I wasn't able to get the basket off the drive block, even with the help of my 16 year old son, so hoped that I had gotten it clean enough without removing it. I ran an empty load, and all was AOK. But as soon as I put some clothes in, the agitation quit after about a minute and the timer just advanced through the rest of the cycle without doing anything. Now it won't drain at all.

I'm going to check the pump again to see if it got clogged with the gunk I got out of the filter (although that should have happened the first time through), and will take a secind stab at removing the basket and doing a more thorough cleaning job.

Other than that, any suggestions? Thanks.

OK - finally got the basket out, and the filter and tub were totally crusted up. Did a thorough clean on everything, then ran the washer again. Similar result - did fine with an empty load, but would not drain with clothes in it. Additionally, the agitiator did not like the heavy duty setting.
