Hello,

I'm on a F1 visa in Illinois and was working in my univ. from Jan-May 2008 and got a tuition waiver. From June-Dec 2008, I was a paid intern in Missouri as part of my CPT and lived in Saint Louis for that period. Do I file state taxes in both IL and MO or should I file only in IL because I was a full-time student in IL for the whole of 2008?

I also got two W-2s from my employee in St.Louis for the period june-dec 2008 with different amounts for the state wages & income tax on them. So, right now, I have three W-2s; one from my univ in IL and two from my employer in MO. Please let me know what steps I should follow? Is it better to go to a tax professional and actually show my W-2s for better filing of taxes? If so, which ones are good and inexpensive?

I assume you have already filed; if not, contact me at [email protected] for professional help with your tax return.

For the IRS, you would fle Form 1040NR and possibly Form 3903 for moving expenses (it depends on how long you worked on CPT) plus Form 8843.

For Illinois, you would file as a non-resident (foreign student by law are considered non-resident for state tax purposes) and pay taxes ONLY on income earned in Illinois.

The same logic applies for Missouri.
