Is Sales Tax charged on Rental Real Estate in the state of California?

Are you purchasing a property to rent to someone or are you paying rent to someone?

I'm renting property in California and trying to determine if I should be charged sales tax. I'm renting for a month - my preliminary inquiries have revealed that there's a 30 day factor for renting. Renting 30 or more days no sales tax, less than 30 days and sales tax applies. Is this correct?

It seems to be that way, but so far as I can determine, it is based on the city. The idea is to impose a tax on vacationers. Some cities are under 31 days get taxed, some are under 30.
