My Chev. Cavalier is knocking,so I pull off the overhead cam cover and I cranked the engine over a few times and I am not getting any oil up at all on the rocker arms.Does that mean I possibly need a new oil pump, since the car was driven low on oil.Could it possibly burned the pump out.I've never changed an oil pump in a vehicle newer than a 1984,am I possibly taking on a harder task then I forsee.

I recommend that you tow it to your local Chevy dealer and have them give you an estimate and do the work, if it fits your budget.

It doesn't fit my budget, that's why I'm thinking of tackling it myself.I looked at the pan and it has all the bolts in sight, and it looks as I only need to remove or move over one mount.

Low oil pressure can also result from crankshaft journal wear, due to low oil or oil that is not changed frequently enough. There are a number of things that can cause low oil pressure. Just realize you may replace the oil pump and the problem may still exist. Hope it works out okay for you.
