Hello Readers,

Im gathering information for a new business venture. Im starting a Kayak and Canoe rental outfit in my home town in Ohio. My town has a very high of seasonal tourist in the summer due to our boating community. We are located on Lake Erie and our summer season provides a lot of water activities and fishing. However, there is nothing related to Canoes or Kayaks along our river or lake.

My idea is to rent kayaks and canoes to local residents as well as out tourist. Recently, a 27 mile water trail opened up starting in our river, running along the lake, and down the next river. This means the timing couldn't be and more perfect. I already have small business on a marina and the canoes and kayaks would be a perfect fit. My long term goal is to provide guided tours starting in our metro parks and working up the river to the lake and back to the marina. About a 3-4 hour trip.

The problem: I have no start up capital. I feel this could attract more people to our city. Create awareness to the environment, and also promote a healthier happier living.

Does anyone have an ideas that could help me find any Grants that can help me get started?

Thanks,
Vito C.
Ohio.

Hi, daggitbrown1!

You've already asked this question in another forum topic area where I addressed it. I'm going to ask that the other thread be deleted so that we can continue here rather than have there be confusion because of two, basically identical threads being started.

I don't know of a grant for such a thing, but I would assume that you would be able to apply for a loan from a bank or other entity. Would there be a problem for you to obtain a loan? You could also ask around where you'll be wanting to operate to see if there might be the possibility for obtaining a grant. Around where I'm located, we have riverboat gambling, and people do apply for grants of the money that's raised by the gambling.

If you need any help or advice concerning attracting customers to your business without it costing you anything, I can definitely help you there. Please just let me know.

Thanks!

How do I respond to an answer?

Hi again, daggitbrown1!

If you might be meaning about the other thread, I'm the only one who responded to it and the thread is now gone. My response on that thread was the same as what I posted in my last two paragraphs in Post #2 above.

It's best to keep things on one thread so that the information exchanged is consistent and so that everyone knows the information that has been exchanged.

Thanks!
