Half of my basement is unfinished area. I would like to separate it into 2 or three spaces to make separate storage and recreation areas.

Presently the ceiling is bare floor joists with plumbing etc. The perimeter walls are 2" foam on concrete.

The question is what can I safely get away with.

I want to make something temporary and inexpensive, so we can get in there ASAP, but something solid enough to put doorways and electrical into. I was thinking of putting in standard framed walls, then just cover them with cheap panelling, and skip the drywall/tape part. Is this a huge safety issue?

Below are 2 possible schemes. There are several escape routes out the finished side, and there will be smoke alarms.

No issue or code problem that I know of. You can paint the paneling later if the paneling has groves in it. Just keep in mine that paneling is on the darker side and usually more lighting is required to brighten up the room. Paneling should be hung on 16o.c. because its thinner than drywall.

Always check codes for the paneling you never can tell these days on local codes and panel composites of manf. Fire.glue. Just to be safe.
