I have a metal engraving of Washington and his Generals by A.H. Ritchie. It has been in the family for at least 100 years and I would like to know what it is worth? It is 36" x 24" and the frame is engraved wood 48" x 36". It also has a small ledgend naming each of the individuals in the picture.

I'm assuming that this is a piece by Alexander Hay Ritchie (1822 - 1895)? If so, the engraving would have been made postmortem, or after Washington's time, but I do believe it will prove to be of some value. Are you intending to sell this family heirloom? If you do intend to sell it, I recommend seeing an appraiser first.

I've included a link where you can find a little more information on this artist:

if you would like to post a picture of the engraving, including the names you reference, I would be happy to take a look at it simply to see if there's anything else I might be able to tell you as an artist.
