(EXCELLENT site by the way). Can anyone email me a picture or a diagram of WHERE on the drivers side kick panel area the mainrelay is located? Someone told me the cruise control relay is in front of it. Is that accurate? Thanks everyone.

Thank you, very much. Found it, & it appears to have fixed it. {APPEARS}.. . We'll see - its been an ongoing gradually & progressively (worsening) issue. Wish I saw this site $1,000.00 ago. :o)

Thank again for taking the time... very generous of you.

I just had an emotional experience fixing my honda, thanks to the kindness of whoever started this thread and he who posted the answer.

My 89 honda wouldn't start, parked up by the road. It does this sometimes. So I coasted it into the back yard and walked into my room. First search yielded answer - main relay. Which I happened to have in my trunk! You see, I just parts'd an 87 accord, and threw all the little useful looking modules in back of mine. This thread showed me where it went, and I plugged it in, AND THE M*F"R RUNS LIKE A F"KN CHAMP. YEEEEAAAAAAAHHHH

F*D THAT PROBLEM IN THE FN ***
Cue jubilant scream

7777777777, it's located under the dash and to the left of the steering column (hidden by the silver cruise control box, which needs to be removed).

98, 99, 00, and 01 Honda Accords--Left of steering column. Turn key on and off, to hear and feel it click.

I need to remove/replace my main relay in a '92 accord DX with a 5 speed manual transmission. I looked through the link that was posted in this thread but I still can't find the relay, perhaps in part because there is no cruise control box to look behind.

Any other suggestions on where to find this elusive part?

Turning ignition key on and off will help you locate the main relay, by allowing you to hear and feel it "click."

I've got a 2000 Accord EX Coupe and I just recently started having trouble starting my car. When I turn the key, it just clicks. This usually happens when the car has been sitting in the sun all day and it's hot inside the car. My boyfriend did some research and found that it might be the main ignition relay. He also found that with most Acura's and Honda's around the same year mine is, this problem with the main ignition relay happens a lot. There's a brown fuse-looking thing under the dash where the foot pedals are and when I tap on it while turning the key, it will start. Any ideas what this problem is?

Also I tried clicking on the link you provided and it's not working. Any other ideas?

Your main relay should be located left of the steering column.

Turning the ignition key on and off will help you locate the main relay, by allowing you to hear and feel it "click." Main relays often have 7 wires going to them.

Could it also be a bad coil or ignitor? I've heard that too.

RUprincess05, yes it could easily be caused by a bad ignitor and coil. I recommend replacing the ignitor, coil, and main relay every 120,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first. These are 3 problem-prone components.

Here's how to replace the ignitor and coil yourself:
