I am currently going into the air force and I want to go back to college but I don't know what to major in? I really want to travel, I love animals and working with my hands, But I also love building and fixing things. I am also a fitness fanatic. So I don't have any idea where to even start? I want a career that pays well so I feel comfortable and not tight for money but I also want to wake up and want to go to work. Any ideas or advice?

Hi, vtang12!

A person doesn't have to decide immediately as in what they want to major in college unless you're looking for a particular college or university that might be recognized as being one of the best for studying certain things that lead up to a specific degree.

You mention going back to college, so I presume that you previously attended college. Would that be correct? If so, were you taking classes that were leading up to obtaining a degree in a specific course of study?

Thanks!

Yes I went to school for psych nursing and I got a job fro a year at a local hospital and realized that that is not what I want to do. So now I'm trying to figure out what to do?

Hi again, vtang12!

Like you, there's a lot of things that I like to do. Most of them are arts related. What is the one thing that you might be most drawn to doing, please? Mine would be performing music. But, around where I live, it's hard to make a living performing the kinds of music that I would really like to play. So, I do a bunch of other things that are also related to the performing arts. I went to college and have a BA in Music Ed. Taught for many years and still teach privately.

Like you, I also love to do things with my hands. I build and fix things. I've set myself up in business to be able to do that. I've known teachers that do a number of other things for others in addition to their teaching job.

My point is, that a person can do a number of things in their life in order to make a living, it doesn't have to be just one thing. But, there does need to be a balancing act between activities so that a person is able to do the things that they want to do. A person may need to wait to do certain activities because others might be more of a priority for a certain period.

Repeating what I had already asked earlier in this post, what is the one thing that you might be most drawn to doing, please?

Thanks!

Large animal vet? It'll keep you fit, a good bit of money, you get to fix things, you can travel on research and conservation expeditions. You already have a science/medical background so that might make it easier to get in. I don't know how competitive it is where you are though...
