There are a lot of threads on this site regarding tongue piercing. Use the search tool at the top of this page and you'll get your answer.

It doesn't really hurt to have it done, just a slight pain when the needle pops through the bottom. It's the week right after that hurts. Your tongue will be swollen to gigantic proportions, and its very sore. You need to make sure you have it done professionally, and make a mixture of 1/3 original listerine mouthwash and 2/3 water. This mixture must be used after eating and (if applicable) smoking, this helps kill any infection. You only have to use it for about a week and a half, until the swelling goes down. It will be very uncomfortable for that week, it will be hard to talk and the barbell will feel weird. But your swelling will go down and you will become accustomed to the barbell. So yes it hurts temporarily, but it will go away, just keep it clean. Hope this helps.

Hi, Roxy2!

Greetings and WELCOME to the site! I just moved your question that you had posted in Introductions to this forum topic area so that it will get the most exposure to those who are best able to answer it. Introductions is for people to introduce themselves and we try to not ask questions there.

I do note, that you've already received a couple of responses while your question was in Introductions.

It can be a little confusing when first learning how to use this site! Your question will get noticed much more in this forum topic area.

We would appreciate it if you would return to Introductions sometime to tell us a little about yourself though, if you would be willing to do that.

Thanks!

Highanddryinnny's answer was pretty much right on. But I will suggest you eat ice chips, lots of icecream, and other soft, cold things. But I'm sure the person that does your piercing will tell you all this. And when I had my done, I had a metal barbell, which I won't suggest because it chips your teeth and the enamel on your teeth... get a plastic one!
