So I recently traded in my Netcomm modem and Netgear wireless router for an all in one Open Networks 824RLW Adsl 2+ Wireless router.

So far I have been able to connect my laptop, Xbox 360 and a PDA all WIRELESSLY with great results. The only thing I can't connect with is my girlfriend's laptop.

It recognises that the network exists (among several other surrounding networks) and it even has it at full strength but when I click on it to input the (shared) WEP passphrase, it says the following:

"Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try to connect again".

Any ideas?

Thanks.

If you browse the web for this problem, you'll probably find many, many causes. Some oft hose causes are simply mis-configuring the computer. In your case, since you have a couple of other devices that easily connect, I don't think that's the problem.

Here are a couple of thoughts. Now, I don't guarantee that any of them are your problem.

What is your encryption protocol? If you're using WPA2 and trying to connect with a Windows XP machine, it won't work. Windows XP will only work with WPA or WEP. Note that WEP can easily be broken. WPA is more secure (though I believe that it's been broken in some cases), and WPA2 is the most secure.

Are you using a PSK (Pre-shared key) or are you relying on some other type or connection? I recommend a PSK. Make sure you've typed in the PSK exactly.

In the wireless networks box, there is a link on the left side that allows you to configure the order of connections. You can go into that box and review the connections that are possible. If you have another connection using the same SSID, that could be a problem. Delete any connections using the same SSID and try again.

Hope this helps just a little bit. This can be a real pain.
