My laptop keeps shutting down. I'm not sure if it is heat related because it could shut down after only a few minuets of operations or it can operate for several hours.

I guess I could start with trying to clean up the registry and if that don't work look at the mother board as a potential problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can the battery cause an event like this. It seems a while back I read the batteries could create unexplained occurrences.

What OS is on the laptop? How old is it? Do you get any messages when it shuts down. Does it shut down only on battery? Have you done regular m,aintenance (defrag, scandisk/chkdsk, virus/spyware scans)?
