The AC fan motor outside went out on my central unit . I purchased a new motor and got home and saw that it had an extra wire coming from the motor. I know where all the other wires attach to. On the "old" capacitor I took off "one brown" and "one black wire". On the side of the new motor it shows one brown wire and one brown-white wire going to the capacitor. Question is where does the black wire go to now that is coming from the fan motor that "was" originally connected to the capacitor go. Does it connect to one the terminals on the capacitor to, and which one? The Capacitor has two banks of four terminals each on top. Thanks for any help.

When you purchased the new motor you should have bought a capacitor that matches the motor.
The wiring then would be: The brown wire and the brown wire with the white stripe should connect to the new capacitor.
If your old capacitor has other wires on it going to other parts then just leave it in place after removing the wires that were going to the old motor.
Wire the other wires the way that you said you knew they went. And the Black wire that you took off the capacitor, trace it back to the contactor and put the white wire from the new motor on that connector.If by now you are confused I will try to make you simpler, these are the wires from the new motor.:
Black to the contactor but not on the line side of the contactor.
White wire to the other line but still not on the line side of the contactor. The white wire could psssible be yellow.
The brown wire and the brown wire with the white stripe to the new capacitor.
If you have a red wire, and/or a blue wire put wire nuts on them and tape them up.

What do you mean black and white wire on the contact but not on the line side? Is the black and white on the same contact?

I too have a 3 wire condenser motor brown, black, yellow. I replaced it with a universal motor with a brown and brown w/ white striped connected to a new capacitor, I have a black which says Hi, red says low, white says line. Should I use a 3 wire or 4 wire Hookup?
Should I use black for HI or red for low?
Is the white goes where my old black one used to go on a contact ?
Old motor is a 3 wire and 1/10 HP 825RPM 208/230VAC

If the Motor is 240 volts, use the black and white and cap the red.

If the Motor is 240 volts, use the black and white and cap the red.

The motor is rated 208-230 VAC
