I installed Spyware Doctor and PCTools on my XP. Now, outgoing emails that I send are received by others with jumbled text and images. I did some research and found that if I disable the PCTools outgoing mail scanner it may solve the problem. There is apparently a bug in their program. The "MIME" standard they specify is bogus.
Spyware Doctor I think I managed to uninstall by going to Control Panel. PCTools refuses to go away. I think if I could uninstall the outgoing mail scanner the problem woud be fixed but I can't find it, or is it a part of PCTools? So how can I uninstall PCTools as it just refuses to go away?
Thanks

Download and install the "Revo Uninstaller".

Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs, Solve uninstall problems (http://www.revouninstaller.com/)

This has an option to clean up the registry when you uninstall it. If you can't find an entry in "Add/Remove Programs', then you have a couple of choices. You can reinstall the product and then use the Revo Uninstaller to uninstall it and clean out the registry. Alternatively, you can delete everything you can find on the computer relating to that program. Then load CCleaner

CCleaner - Home (http://www.ccleaner.com/)

And use the registry scanning feature of that program to clean out the COM entries in the registry. You will probably have information remaining in the registry, but it shouldn't cause any problems. If you know what you're doing, go to HKLM/Software and HKCU/Software and blow away the branch relating to the programs you're trying to uninstall.

I should caution you that some programs, usually "parental control" programs can get deep into Windows. They're made not to be easily uninstalled and you can have real problems if you try to uninstall them by deleting files and cleaning out the registry. If you do that, the only decent way to uninstall it is to reinstall the program and then use Add/Remove programs to uninstall it.

You should always use the program's uninstaller first to try to uninstall the software. If that doesn't work it's usually because the software installation was corrupted going in. Or you other system related issues preventing ANY software to uninstall correctly. Adding additional software to fix another software's issue generally ISN'T the correct course of action as it is only compounding the problem significantly.

Regardless of whatever free steps you take to remove stubborn software, always refer back to the software manufacturer, in this case PC Tools, for direct product support, they most likely know about the issue and already have a resolution for it that they can send you or direct you to a link to download.
